United States Women’s National Team legend Megan Rapinoe has previously made it clear that she supports transgender women competing in women’s sports, but she did not want to talk about the issue with a reporter who ambushed her during a Pride Month parade in Seattle.
Megan Rapinoe was riding in a Pride parade in Seattle alongside WNBA legend Sue Bird when Katie Daviscourt of The Post Millennial walked up and asked the USWNT star a question about transgender women in women’s sports.
“Your U.S. women’s soccer team famously lost to high school boys. Do you really think it’s fair for these same boys to be competing in girls’ sports?” Daviscourt asked.
Rapinoe immediately looked frustrated at the question as she mouthed “Oh my God” before taking a sip of her drink. A security guard quickly came in between Rapinoe and the reporter.

“Why should trans people compete against young girls? Do you not think that they’re gonna get hurt? Are they gonna get hurt? I’m a journalist, I just wanna know,” Daviscourt added.
Needless to say, the video quickly went viral on social media with people offering their reactions.

It’s worth noting that Rapinoe’s refusal to answer the question clearly had more to do with the time and place in which the question was asked and not the content of the question. Rapinoe has had no problem articulating her thoughts on the issue previously.
“Absolutely,” Rapinoe said earlier this year. “‘You’re taking a ‘real’ woman’s place,’ that’s the part of the argument that’s still extremely transphobic. I see trans women as real women. What you’re saying automatically in the argument – you’re sort of telling on yourself already – is you don’t believe these people are women. Therefore, they’re taking the other spot. I don’t feel that way.”
Still, it’s clear that she did not give the reporter what she wanted.
