Real Madrid striker and French international Karim Benzema will miss France’s World Cup qualifier after he was pulled over for speeding at 135 mph and could face potential jail time.
Benzema was driving home from a match–in his Audi RS5 4.2 FSI that was given to him by his club team Real Madrid–alongside fellow teammates Alvaro Arbeloa, Jose Callejon, Sergio Ramos and Michael Essien when they were all pulled over for speeding. All of the Madridstas were breathalysed and passed. Essien was fined €200, but Benzema’s fast driving landed him a court hearing that could send him to prison for six months.
While it is highly unlikely this will happen, the court hearing does come at a loss for France because it falls on the same date as their World Cup qualifier.
This is not the first run-in with the law for Benzema. He was fined for racing his Porsche against a Ferrari and a Lamborghini back in June of 2011 and crashed his car into a tree back in 2009.
