United States President Joe Biden recently told a pretty interesting story about why he rooted for the Green Bay Packers growing up, but unfortunately for him, it does not appear that the story is actually true.

During a recent speech, Joe Biden told a story about why he and his entire Catholic school in Delaware rooted for the Green Bay Packers.

“I went to a Catholic high school in Delaware taught by the Norbertines priest from St. Norbert College… Near that little team called Green Bay,” Biden told an audience.

“Now, here’s the deal,” Biden continued, “We were the only high school in Delaware who overwhelmingly rooted for Green Bay. [Crowd laughs]. Not a joke, I’ll tell you why: Every single Sunday. Not only did they have great teams at the time – still do – but not only that, my theology professor at the Catholic school I went to was a guy named Riley. Last name. And he had been drafted by the Green Bay Packers.”

“He decided to become a priest before that, so he didn’t go, but every single solitary Monday that Green Bay won, we got the last period of the day off.”

But as someone pointed out on social media, this story is clearly untrue because there is no record of anybody named “Reilly” or “Riley” ever being drafted by the Green Bay Packers during that time.

Additionally, Biden has told another version of this story before with some very different facts.

Needless to say, it’s pretty horrible news for Biden that he was caught in a clear lie like this, and it led to a lot of reactions on social media as a result.

It’s not clear whether he’s intentionally lying or simply misremembering. Either way, it’s not a good look.
