United States President Donald Trump has long opposed transgender women competing in women’s sports. Now that he has been sworn in as president, he is moving forward with plans to shut down protections for transgender athletes.
According to a report from the Associated Press, Donald Trump is set to sign executive orders that will roll back protections for transgender people, including transgender athletes.
This comes after Trump announced on Sunday night that he would prevent transgender women from competing in women’s sports.
“We will get critical race theory and transgender insanity out of our schools and we will keep men out of women’s sports,” Trump announced during his rally on Sunday night.
The executive orders will also declare that the federal government would recognize only two immutable sexes: male and female. Additionally, the government will no longer recognize Transgender Day of Visibility.
Of course, this is not exactly shocking and it’s not the first time Trump has declared his intentions. After winning the 2024 presidential election, Trump vowed to make these moves against transgender athletes.
“With the stroke of my pen on day one, we are going to stop the transgender lunacy,” Trump said during a speech last year. “And I will sign executive orders to end child sexual mutilation, get transgender out of the military, and out of our elementary schools and middle schools and high schools — and we will keep men out of women’s sports.”
The legality of these executive orders remains up for debate. But clearly, Trump is willing to follow through with this promise.
