In just his eighth ever NHL game, Winnipeg Jets defenseman Jacob Trouba suffered a brutal injury after crashing head first into the boards during Friday night’s game against the St. Louis Blues. The 19-year old appeared to be attempting a hit on Jordan Leopold but stumbled into the boards at full speed, knocking him down to the ice where he remained for several minutes. He was then taken off the ice on a stretcher. We’ve seen this sight far too many times in this early NHL season. This is the third incident in the past week that has required a stretcher, as both Dan Boyle of San Jose and Niklas Kronwall of Detroit left the ice in similar fashion.
Scott Brown, a spokesmen for True North, tweeted the following update on Trouba’s condition:
An update on #NHLJets defenceman Jacob Trouba-he has been taken to hospital for x-rays. He is alert, communicating, and moving all limbs.
