Earlier today we talked about how the Avalanche and Red Wings had a legitimate shot at reigniting their once-fierce rivalry. We touched on how Patrick Roy has the Avalanche playing a hard-nosed (to put it very, very lightly) style of play which has seen them win their first six games of the year.
While the Avalanche style of play is an exciting brand, it was just a matter of time before something bad was going to happen. Tonight it did.
Avalanche forward and alternate captain Cody McLeod was chasing down Red Wing rearguard Niklas Kronwall into the corner and didn’t let up — crunching the Russian defenseman from behind, leaving him in a dazed heap.
The most concerning part of the whole incident is that nobody waved over for help after the incident. That is scary.
