Throughout this season, second-year quarterback Sam Howell has served as the starting quarterback of the Washington Commanders. But it sounds like the team has made a switch at the quarterback position for this week’s game against the San Francisco 49ers.

On Wednesday morning, the team announced that veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett would serve as the team’s starting quarterback this week, which means that Sam Howell has been benched.

“QB Jacoby Brissett will start on Sunday,” the team announced on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

This comes after Howell was benched in each of the past two games with Brissett nearly leading the team to comeback victories in both games.

During last week’s game against the Los Angeles Rams, Brissett replaced Howell with the team trailing by a score of 28-7. Brissett led the team to 20 consecutive points to make the game close at the end.

Then during this week’s game against the New York Jets, the Commanders fell behind 20-0 in the second quarter and Brissett nearly led them all the way back once again with the team ultimately falling 30-28 after a last-second field goal from the Jets.

It’s clear at this point that the team believes Brissett gives them the best chance to win.
