Chris Matthews is trending on Twitter after being borderline unknown at the start of the Super Bowl. If not for his onside kick recovery against the Packers in the NFC title game two weeks earlier, he literally would have been unknown outside of the Seahawks organization, CFL circles and by University of Kentucky football fans.
He entered the game with zero NFL catches for zero yards and was so far off the radar that he was likely not even remotely considered to receive Super Bowl MVP odds. As a result, two fullbacks (New England’s James Devlin and Seattle’s Will Tukuafu) and three backup tight ends (New England’s Michael Hoomanawanui and Timothy Wright and Seattle’s Cooper Helfet) received heavier consideration for MVP honors than Matthews.
All five players received odds of anywhere between 50/1 and 100/1 but it could be Matthews winning some bettors cash if they selected the Field, one that had odds between 20/1 and 30/1 depending upon the service.
