Over the past several months, Taylor Swift has become an integral part of the Kansas City Chiefs football community after she began attending games in support of her boyfriend Travis Kelce when the pair began dating a few months ago. And now, with that community facing tragedy, Swift is stepping up to help with a massive donation.
During Wednesday afternoon’s parade in Kansas City to celebrate the team’s Super Bowl LVIII victory, a shooting broke out that claimed the life of local radio DJ Lisa Lopez-Galvan and injured 22 others – half of whom were under the age of 16.
This week, a GoFundMe was set up for the family of Lopez-Galvan with the goal of reaching $75,000. Swift surpassed that goal herself.
Early Friday morning, Swift made a donation of $50,000 to the GoFundMe page, followed by a separate donation of $50,000 that came eight minutes later to bring the total donation to $100,000.
“Sending my deepest sympathies and condolences in the wake of your devastating loss. With love, Taylor Swift,” the pop star wrote in the message.
While the donations came overnight for those in the United States, they took place in the evening in Australia, where Swift is currently performing.
Swift’s representatives confirmed to Variety.com that the donations were legitimate.
