As reported by ESPN, Saints head coach Sean Payton’s contract was voided by the NFL which makes the suspended head coach a free agent when this season comes to an end. FOX NFL insider Jay Glazer spoke to Payton earlier today to get some more details.
“Sean said that this had been going on for about a year and a half because the NFL never really ratified his contact extension. There were some things in there such as if Mickey Loomis was gone Sean had the right to go as well and the NFL always said, ‘no you can’t do this’ which Sean brought up when he originally met with Roger Goodell. Sean said, ‘I absolutely plan on being a New Orleans Saint. This is a franchise that I helped rebuild from the ground up with Mickey Loomis and the Benson family. I love working for the Benson family and with Mickey Loomis.’ In the end Payton will become the NFL’s highest paid head coach.”
