The New York Jets have had arguably the most disappointing season in the NFL this year. Many expected the Jets, behind the arm of surefire hall-of-fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers, to not only challenge the Buffalo Bills for AFC East supremacy but to make a run at the Super Bowl as the AFC’s representative.
What has transpired on the field this season has been a far cry from those expectations.
The Jets 40-14 loss to Buffalo on Sunday dropped the team to 4-12. Rodgers was even removed from the game for backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor when it became clear that things were out of reach.
Now, according to Pro Football Talk, one Jets star is speaking on the state of his teammates’ headspaces at this point in the season, and things don’t sound like they’re going well in the locker room either.
“If you ask me, that means it’s like the end of the season. Obviously, we’re not going to the playoffs, some people might be checked out,” said star cornerback Sauce Gardner. “That’s just me going off speculation.”
Gardner hinted that these issues may have been transpiring throughout the season, not just since the Jets were officially eliminated from playoff contention.
“We enhanced our roster in all areas, so that just tells me we can’t be playing as a team. We’re probably just individuals because I know last year and the year before, you know, we had a roster that wasn’t as talented as this roster but we found ways to beat the Bills, found ways to win.
“So, what’s stopping that now with a more talented roster?”
It’ll be interesting to see what changes come to the organization in the offseason.
