The Los Angeles Rams appear to be set as far as their starting quarterback position goes with veteran Matthew Stafford returning for another season. But on Tuesday, they brought in a veteran to back him up whom the organization is quite familiar with.
Former Los Angeles Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is set to miss the first two games of the season after he violated the NFL’s PED policy last month.
This pretty much took him out of the running of a potential crack as a starter around the league for the upcoming 2024-25 season. But on Tuesday, he found a landing spot with the Rams.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Garoppolo officially signed a one-year deal with the Rams to back up Stafford.

As far as a backup quarterback position goes, you can certainly find far worse than Garoppolo, who has proven over the years that he can produce in the right situation.
The NFL world took notice of this news, chiming in with their opinion on it on social media.

The Rams organization played against Garoppolo two times a year for the six seasons that he was a member of the San Francisco 49ers. So perhaps nobody knows Garoppolo better than Sean McVay as a player.
Considering the recent injury history of Matthew Stafford, this move should be a great insurance policy to remain competitive in the NFC West even if Stafford does ultimately miss some time.
