As they cut their roster down to 53 players ahead of the start of the 2024 NFL season, the Los Angeles Rams have waived 10 players, including veteran quarterback Dresser Winn.
Originally acquired as an undrafted free agent following the 2023 NFL Draft, this marks the second time in as many years the Rams have released the former UT-Martin quarterback at the end of an offseason. After being waived by Los Angeles following last year’s training camp, Winn spent a part of the 2023 season playing for the Edmonton Elks in the Canadian Football League before being signed to the Rams’ practice squad for a week in early-November and later again in early-January.
While Los Angeles clearly liked Winn enough to sign him on multiple occasions, it hardly comes as a surprise that he didn’t make Los Angeles’ initial 53-man roster for the 2024 season. With Matthew Stafford set to return as the Rams’ starting quarterback, Los Angeles also signed veteran quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo to its roster this past offseason, with 2023 fourth-round pick Stetson Bennett IV also still on the team’s roster.
With Garoppolo set to serve a two-game suspension to open the 2024 campaign, Bennett will enter the 2024 season as Stafford’s primary backup. The two-time national championship-winning quarterback didn’t appear in any games during the 2023 campaign, which he spent most of away from the team, but has earned rave reviews throughout the team’s training camp leading into the upcoming season.
