In theory, joint practices are fantastic ideas. They allow teams to get in some reps against some opponents who they aren’t all that familiar with and they also give some practices a more competitive edge.
In practice, they aren’t without their downsides.
The Cowboys and Rams displayed one downside of joint practices on Tuesday, as this gigantic fight broke out between the squads.

That sure is a whole lot of shoving. Head coaches Jason Garrett and Jeff Fisher wisely decided to call the practice off after the melee.

The NFL recently issued a memo warning players and teams that fighting during joint practices would not be tolerated and it will be interesting to see what fallout, if any, will result from this mess of haphazard chaos.
