After a poor performance in the debate against Donald Trump last month, there have been a lot of Democrats calling for Joe Biden to pull out of the upcoming presidential election. Former NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue is among those voices.
According to Michael Scherer of the Washington Post, Pat Tagliabue joined the 167 other members of the Leadership Now Project in calling for Joe Biden to pull out of the upcoming presidential election.
“As members of the Leadership Now Project, and like-minded business and civic leaders committed to protecting American democracy, we have been vocal about the threats posed by a second term of Donald Trump,” the letter said. “The risks to America are profound: global and domestic instability, abandoning our allies, crony capitalism, political retribution, and further erosion of the rights of women and other groups. . . .
“At this consequential moment for our nation, it is time to cement your legacy by passing the torch — just as George Washington did.”
On Friday, however, Biden made it very clear that he has no plans to pull out of the race.
“Let me say this as clearly as I can: I’m the sitting President of the United States. I’m the nominee of the Democratic party. I’m staying in the race,” Biden said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.
Clearly, many Democrats want Biden to suspend his campaign, but Biden has no interest in doing that.
