Colin Kaepernick’s playing days are finished in the NFL.
The quarterback hasn’t played since 2016 when he sparked nationwide outrage over protesting the national anthem. However, it seems like he has one path back to the field on Sundays.
Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh has offered him a spot on the Chargers’ staff. It doesn’t seem like Kaepernick will take the opportunity though.
According to the Daily Mail, Kaepernick is afraid if he doesn’t pan out as a coach he is done forever in the league.
“The likelihood of him accepting the position isn’t very likely. He is delusional in thinking that he will eventually be offered a job as a QB again in the league. That chance has forever passed him, no matter what he thinks,” an anonymous league insider told the Daily Mail.
“He isn’t going to play in the NFL ever again, there is no scenario where a team will give him a chance to play again, that ship has sailed.
“He is apprehensive to start coaching because of two main reasons: one is if he is bad, then that will be the nail in the coffin on working in the NFL ever again.
“Second, he really thinks he can play for a team and contribute to a championship team.”
It’s pretty sad that Kaepernick is holding out for an opportunity to play when the ship has sailed and it’s causing him to miss out on other opportunities.
