With his status with the team in a state of limbo, New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson has decided that he will not be participating in the team’s voluntary offseason program. But it doesn’t sound like the team is too concerned about his absence.
During a press conference this week, New York Jets general manager Joe Douglas reacted to the potential absence of Zach Wilson by indicating that the workouts are all voluntary and it would be Wilson’s choice whether or not to attend.
“I think it’s each player’s choice whether they’re going to be here for Phase 1 [of the program],” Douglas said at his pre-draft news conference. “These are all voluntary. There are quite a few players that haven’t come for the first week. So, look, that’s a decision that Zach has to make.”
Wilson has attended the voluntary workouts each of his first three seasons in the league up to this point, so his absence from this year’s voluntary workouts is notable as it indicates a level of frustration with his current situation.
The Jets have made it clear that they are willing to trade Wilson, but they have been given an offer they are willing to accept.
