The New York Giants did not have a particularly successful season this year, finishing the season with just a 6-11 record. And it seems like they’re now having to deal with some pretty surprising strife within the coaching staff.

According to Paul Schwartz of the New York Post, the decision from Brian Daboll to fire outside linebackers coach Drew Wilkins and defensive assistant Kevin Wilkins caused defensive coordinator Wink Martindale to curse out Brian Daboll and leave the building.

“Martindale, angered by this news, cursed out Daboll, said his piece, got up, slammed the door and walked out of the building,” Schwartz wrote for the New York Post this week.

Both Drew Wilkins and Kevin Wilkins following Martindale from Baltimore to join the Giants staff alongside him, and the decision to fire them came after Martindale and Drew Wilkins formed what Schultz describes as “their own fiefdom within the coahcing staff.”

“There was a feeling in the building that Martindale and Drew Wilkins were creating their own fiefdom within the coaching staff, at times bypassing Daboll and believing they had to answer only to each other and, ultimately, ownership,” Schwartz wrote. “Daboll is all about collaboration and this was not that.”

Martindale did not immediately officially resign nor has he officially been fired, but this doesn’t sound like a great thing for the Giants.
