Malik Cunningham was expected to serve as a backup to former Lousiville Cardinals teammate Lamar Jackson when he signed with the Baltimore Ravens last year. But it sounds like he’ll actually be catching passes from his former teammate instead of serving as a backup.

According to a report from Ryan Mink of the Baltimore Ravens team website, Malik Cunningham has now officially switched positions and is listed as a wide receiver on the team’s official roster.

“Malik Cunningham is now officially listed as a WR (not QB) on the Ravens’ roster, btw. He made that look like the right call today with several grabs,” Mink said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

Cunningham was not selected in the 2023 NFL Draft, but he was signed by the New England PAtriots as an undrafted free agent shortly after the draft. After he was never able to crack the team’s regular lineup, he was ultimately signed off of the Patriots’ practice squad by the Baltimore Ravens.

Though he showed promise as a quarterback, particularly in the preseason, he’ll now be dedicating his full efforts to playing wide receiver. The move led to a lot of reactions on social media.

We’ll have to see how the position change works out for him.
