Some players end up returning to their first team later in their career, the same team that either traded or released them. It doesn’t appear LeSean McCoy will be one of the players, at least as long as Chip Kelly is in Philadelphia. After we thought the dust was finally done settling from last month’s shocking McCoy-Kiko Alonso deal that left everyone’s jaw on the floor, the new Bills running back still has plenty to say about the situation in Philly.
After calling the Eagles’ signing of DeMarco Murray a “panic move” and through repeated whispers of both subtle and not-so-subtle jabs at his former employer, McCoy is now saying Kelly has a lack of respect for certain players and situations. He chatted with the Philadelphia Inquirer about how he doesn’t believe Kelly likes the stars of the league:
I don’t think he likes or respects the stars. I’m being honest. I think he likes the fact that it’s ‘Chip Kelly and the Eagles.’ It was ‘DeSean Jackson – a high-flying, take-off-the-top-of-the-defense receiver.’ Or ‘the quick, elusive LeSean McCoy. I don’t think [Kelly] likes that.
I was so big on trying to improve myself. Now you put my numbers up. You put my [numbers] up and you’ll see it. It tells you it. In any system – Andy or Chip. So I’m not going to go there, back and forth with that. I just feel like the only thing I didn’t like was the respect. For so many years I gave you all what you wanted. You know? And then for how it went down, it was like a surprise. I’m thinking, ‘Does everybody look at it how I look at it?’
It’s definitely an interesting relationship, as McCoy continues to say he doesn’t despise Kelly or the Eagles but still lofts shots at them. And in case you’re wondering, yes, the Bills do play at Philadelphia this season.
