Hall of Fame linebacker Lawrence Taylor has found himself in another run-in with law enforcement, yet again pertaining to his inability to follow the conditions that go along with being named a registered sex offender.
Taylor was declared a sex offender back in 2011 following accusations he had been intimate with a 16-year-old girl. That ruling means that the former New York Giant must inform law enforcement if there is a change in residency.
According to TMZ, Taylor did not follow these directions, which resulted in a felony warrant being put out for Taylor. He ultimately turned himself in on the outstanding warrant Wednesday afternoon. The warrant again pertained to not informing law enforcement about a residency change.
Taylor reportedly remained in jail throughout the night, ultimately being released at around 3 AM on Thursday.
This is not the first time that Taylor has been arrested for failing to follow this condition of his sex offender status. He was arrested for a similar reason in 2021.
Despite this, Taylor’s attorney Mark Eiglarsh issued a statement on the matter which was retrieved by TMZ. In the statement, he called it a “significant misunderstanding”.
“My client, Lawrence Taylor, will be pleading ‘Not Guilty’ to the recent charges,” Eiglarsh said. “As with the previous incident involving the same allegations, Mr. Taylor did not knowingly commit any criminal offense. This situation is a significant misunderstanding. We are confident that, once the prosecutors review the exculpatory evidence demonstrating Mr. Taylor’s innocence, he will once again achieve a favorable outcome.
You would think that Taylor would have learned from the first time he was arrested for this similar incident. But that is seemingly not the case.
