For as long as he’s been with the Minnesota Vikings, quarterback Kirk Cousins has played on a fully guaranteed contract with the team. But it does not seem like the team will be willing to give him that same sort of contract this time around if he is to remain with the team.
According to a report from NFL insider Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, the Vikings have decided that they will not give Kirk Cousins a fully guaranteed contract as he decides whether or not to remain with the team.
“The current Minnesota brass, now going into its third season, really likes Cousins, but it’s also been made clear that they’re not going to go contractually where the previous regime did twice, and give Cousins a fully guaranteed deal. Absent that, Cousins is now in position to hit the market like he did six years ago, this time older and, of course, more injured,” Breer wrote for Sports Illustrated.
Obviously, this is a significant decision from the team, and it led to a lot of reactions on social media as a result.
Kirk will probably end up in Atlanta. Atlanta runs the exact same offense as Minnesota. If that happens, Atlanta will win the NFC South easily… https://t.co/k6cBKu8sP9

Give him ownership stake https://t.co/AUQ0nmgVZ5

It would benefit the Vikings if someone gives him that then and not continuing to stick with him. He's good, not great, but it's always scary for team to move on trying to upgrade their QB.
It would force them to at least try. Coming off the Achilles is iffy too. https://t.co/5bHYIHQguG

Now we will see if he really wants to stay in Minnesota.

Cousins is set to become a free agent in March. There’s a chance he could still choose to re-sign with the Vikings, but it’s pretty clear that it won’t be on a fully guaranteed contract.
