Last month, Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker delivered quite a controversial commencement address in which he criticized transgender people, mocked LGBTQ Pride Month, and suggested that the most important role for a woman is as a homemaker. The speech was offensive to many, but pop superstar Katy Perry has not “fixed” the speech.
Over the weekend, Katy Perry shared a version of the Harrison Butker speech that had been edited to fix all of the controversial parts and replace them with supportive messages.
“fixed this for my girls, my graduates, and my gays — you can do anything, congratulations and happy pride,” Perry said in the caption of the edited speech
Perry’s edited version of the speech offered support to women for all the success they could reach in their professional careers.
“How many of you are sitting here now, about to cross this stage, and are thinking about all the promotions and titles you’re going to get in your career?” the edited speech said. “I would venture to guess the women here today are going to lead successful careers in the world.”
The video changed the portion of the speech where Butker suggested that the women in attendance will be most excited about being wives and mothers.

“I say all of this to you because I have seen it firsthand, how much happier someone can be supporting women and not saying that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world,” the edited version of the speech said.
Perry’s version of the speech ended with Butker celebrating diversity and wishing everyone a happy LGBTQ Pride month.
“The road ahead is bright, things are changing, society is shifting and people young and old are embracing diversity, equity, and inclusion. With that said, I want to say happy Pride Month to all of you. And congratulations Class of 2024,” the edited speech said.
Clearly, that’s what Perry thinks Butker should have said.
