As the Kansas City Chiefs trim their roster down ahead of the release of their final 53-man roster heading into the upcoming 2024 NFL season, it sounds like they are parting ways with one of their veteran quarterbacks.
Veteran quarterback Ian Book was battling for a roster spot as a backup quarterback to start Patrick Mahomes, but it sounds like he has been cut loose as NFL insider Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network reported on Monday that the Chiefs had decided to release the former Notre Dame Fighting Irish star.
“The #Chiefs waived QB Ian Book, per source,” Pelissero said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

Book was selected in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints. He spent time with the Philadelphia Eagles and the New England Patriots before joining the Chiefs this offseason.
The move appears to have been made in order to create a roster spot to sign wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster.
With Book now released, the Chiefs have three quarterbacks on the roster: starter Patrick Mahomes, backup Carson Wentz, and third-year young quarterback Chris Oladokun. We’ll have to see where Book lands next.
