On Thursday night, NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that both the New England Patriots and the Minnesota Vikings reached out to the Los Angeles Chargers in an attempt to trade for star quarterback Justin Herbert. Obviously, those trades did not happen, and it doesn’t sound like the Chargers actually had any interest in even entertaining that possibility.
During his post-draft press conference on Thursday night, Los Angeles Chargers general manager Joe Horitz made it very clear that the team was not at all interested in trading Justin Herbert to the Vikings, the Patriots, or anybody else, saying that a trade was “never an option.”
Though he did confirm that there was indeed interest from teams.
“Justin who?” Hortiz said according to Kris Rhim of ESPN. “No. No, at the combine I had some people ask me would we consider it, and they were quickly shot down. No, that is never an option.”
So while there will be a new head coach and a new general manager in town for the Chargers this year, it does sound like the team does intend to stick with Herbert as their starting quarterback for the foreseeable future. We’ll have to see how he performs under the new regime.
