The Minnesota Vikings selected former Michigan Wolverines star quarterback J.J. McCarthy with the No. 10 overall pick in the NFL Draft. And it sounds like he is already impressing his teammates during OTAs.
During an interview session this week, Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jordan Addison had some high praise for the team’s newest quarterback making it clear that J.J. McCarthy is already showing some promise during practice.
“He’s got a nice, tight spiral. So you’ve got to make sure you catch it,” Addison said with a laugh according to Lindsey Young of the Minnesota Vikings team website. “But I like him. J.J.’s been playing really well. Playing with confidence, anticipating throws. Making mistakes but learning from them.
“He’s got a bright future.”
The Vikings are in search of their next quarterback after longtime starter Kirk Cousins left the team this offseason to sign with the Atlanta Falcons instead. It’s not clear whether McCarthy will earn the job as a rookie or if the team will decide to start the more veteran Sam Darnold in his place.
Whatever happens, it’s pretty clear that Addison thinks that McCarthy will have a strong career ahead of him in the league even if he doesn’t start this year.
