Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay was arrested in Carmel, Ind., late Sunday night on drunken driving charges. At 11:41 PM on Sunday night Irsay was preliminarily charged with Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated and Possession of a Controlled Substance.
Irsay was driving a late-model silver Toyota Highlander at a slow rate of speed, then stopped in the roadway, but failed to use his turn signal. That’s when Lt. Joe Bickel of the Carmel Police Department approached Irsay.
“During the course of the investigation, Irsay subsequently failed several roadside field sobriety tests,” Bickel said. In Irsay’s vehicle an “inventory of multiple prescription drugs were discovered in pill bottles,” police said. “These Schedule IV prescription drugs were not associated with any prescription bottles found in the vehicle.”
The Colts owner is currently at the Hamilton County Jail. Bond is set at $22,500.
It was just in October that Irsay stated his sobriety to alcohol.
