Jim Brown reverses stance on NFL kneeling “It’s fine with me”

Back in August, NFL Hall of Famer Jim Brown let it be known he wasn’t a fan of Colin Kaepernick kneeling during the U.S. National Anthem. Now, he’s changing his tune.

The former Cleveland Browns fullback previously said “I’m an American. I don’t desecrate my flag and my national anthem,” when asked about anthem protests. However, when TMZ caught up with him this week he said he’s fine with the action.

“I think if [NFL players] wanted to kneel and it was within the rules of the game, it’s fine with me,” Brown said, adding “I really don’t want to speak for anyone else, and I don’t want to be negative about too many things.” 

As Jay Rigdon of The Comeback noted, it’s possible Brown’s previous answer was reactionary since he wasn’t prepared to answer the question on a red carpet. Regardless, it’s good to see Brown give a more respectful, thought-out answer to what’s an increasingly tough and polarizing question these days among former NFL players.
