Mike Vick and Lamar Jackson are the two most prolific running quarterbacks in the history of the NFL, but it sounds like reigning Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels wants to pass both of them as he gets set to begin his NFL career.
During a recent interview ahead of Thursday night’s NFL Draft, Jayden Daniels called out Mike Vick and Lamar Jackson a little bit as he made it clear that he wants to establish himself as the best running quarterback in the history of the league.
“[Vick] was the first, but I think Lamar’s got him now,” Daniels told CBS Sports. “I’m in the league now, so I’m trying to go past them.”
Obviously, Daniel is a gifted athlete, but he thinks that his ability to run the ball successfully also comes down to his ability to make quick decisions as a quarterback.
“Being decisive,” Daniels said. “That’s a big part. Knowing when to run and when not to run, it’s kind of just a feel thing throughout the game. You kind of feel how deep the defense is, where the rush lanes are, stuff that like. That just comes with playing football.”
We’ll have to see how Daniels performs as a running threat at the NFL level.
