On Wednesday, a report stating that Osi Umenyiora was in New York to visit the Jets caught many by surprise.
Osi Umenyiora back to the New York market? Maybe. Source says the free-agent DE was in NJ today to meet with the … Jets. Interesting.

The meeting didn’t make much sense from a football perspective given that the Jets actually have a very decent defensive front and Osi isn’t exactly a young player with a whole lot left in the tank.
However, no one may have been more surprised to see a report stating that Osi flew in to “meet” with the Jets than Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan.
“I think he was in our building a whole 10 minutes,” Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan said. “I actually didn’t even know he was here until later in the day when somebody asked me about it.”
Apparently, Osi was at the Jets facility to say hello to one person employed by the Jets – coach Todd Bowles. However, the meeting was reportedly a “social visit” and nothing more serious than that.
The Jets logged the visit, as they would with anyone else and that caused a bunch of reports on Umenyiora’s meeting with the Jets.
As for actual interest from the Jets, it doesn’t sound like there’s much.
“I think Osi, like all the players in free agency right now, we’re definitely reviewing [him],” Maccagnan said. “There’s still value out there in the free-agent market. Osi’s somebody we’ll talk about internally and make an evaluation if we want to go forward on it.”
