Earlier this month, Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker gave quite a controversial commencement address at a Catholic college in Kansas that many criticized as sexist as he said that the “most important” role for women is as a homemaker. In that speech, Butker actually quoted lyrics from a Taylor Swift song. But as one person points out, he might have made a bit of a mistake with which song he quoted.
In his speech, Harrison Butker quoted the lyrics “familiarity breeds contempt” from the hit Taylor Swift song “Bejeweled” from her album Midnights.
But as Taylor Swift fan McKenzie Hopson David points out on social media, Harrison Butker clearly did not know what that song was about when he quoted the lyrics, because it certainly did not fit with the theme of the speech.
I actually think that Harrison Butker quoting Taylor Swift in his dumpster fire of a speech is hilarious when you consider that the song he quoted (Bejeweled) is about a successful woman telling a mediocre man to step aside so she can shine.

“I actually think that Harrison Butker quoting Taylor Swift in his dumpster fire of a speech is hilarious when you consider that the song he quoted (Bejeweled) is about a successful woman telling a mediocre man to step aside so she can shine,” David said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.
Obviously, Butker wasn’t thinking too deeply about the meaning of the song he was quoting in his speech.
