Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker made some pretty controversial comments during a recent graduation address when he urged women to fulfill their calling as “homemakers” instead of professional careers. And those comments have earned the criticism of rock legend Eddie Vedder, the lead singer of the iconic band Pearl Jam.
During his speech, Harrison Butker said that women have been told “diabolic lies” that they should pursue careers outside of being mothers and wives.
“I think it is you, the women, who have had the most diabolic lies told to you,” Butker said. “Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world, but I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world. I can tell you that my beautiful wife Isabelle would be the first to say her life truly started when she started living her vocation as a wife and as a mother.”
But Eddie Vedder was not a fan of Butker’s words as he absolutely blasted the kicker during a recent concert.

“He started telling men, ‘Don’t forget to puff up your chests and be more masculine. Don’t lose your masculinity.’ The irony is that when he was saying that, he looked like such a [expletive],” Vedder said. “There’s nothing more masculine than a strong man supporting a strong woman.”
Clearly, Vedder did not support the message from Butker’s speech.
