The Dallas Cowboys brought back longtime running back Ezekiel Elliott this offseason after he spent one season away from the team with the New England Patriots. It sounds like he will have a different role with the team this time around as the team takes a by-committee approach to its running backs room, but Elliott does not seem to mind.
During a recent press conference, Ezekiel Elliott was asked about this possible new role with the team and he made it clear that he is willing to do whatever it takes to help the team, even if that means splitting carries with other backs.
“Shoot, I don’t know exactly what it looks like, but we’ll see,” Elliott said according to Garrett Podell of CBS Sports. “I love football. I’m going to do whatever it takes for me, that I need to do, to help this team win. Whatever that is.”
Even if Elliott will not be getting the massive number of carries he got earlier in his career, he still sees himself as a starting-caliber running back in the league.
“I still view myself as a starter in this league,” Elliott said. “But also I’ve got to take care of my body and make sure I’m fresh for when it matters. What’s that going to look like? I’m not necessarily sure, but we’ll figure it out.”
We’ll have to see how this situation plays out, but it’s clear that Elliott plans to embrace any role that he’s given.
