Yesterday, the Empire State Building decided to participate in the Super Bowl festivities by lighting up in the Patriots’ and Seahawks’ team colors depending on who was winning the game.

With the Patriots winning the game 28-24, the New York landmark sent out a congratulatory Tweet to the victors, along with a picture of the Empire State Building lit up in the Patriots’ red, white and blue. And while the concept of celebrating the Super Bowl no matter where you live is a good one, there’s just something incredibly off-putting and slightly hilarious about New York celebrating a Patriots’ victory given that the state is “home” to New England’s traditional rival (the Jets) as well as the team that beat them in the Super Bowl twice (the Giants).
What’s next? Will the Empire State Building light up in red and white if the Boston Red Sox win the World Series?
