Trevor Lawrence Steve Roberts-USA TODAY Sports

Ever since he was selected as the No. 1 overall pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2021 NFL Draft, Trevor Lawrence has been seen as a quarterback with a lot of potential. But there’s one clear thing that’s holding him back: turnovers.

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson opened up about this issue with Trevor Lawerence recently, sending a particular brutal message to his starting quarterback that the current turnover numbers simply are not acceptable.

“It’s the biggest thing that he has to focus on moving forward,” Pederson said according to ESPN. “We just can’t have this amount of turnovers. How we turn the ball over, where we turn the ball over, it doesn’t matter. We’ve got to protect the football. That’s the No. 1 thing. For the quarterback, the person that touches the ball every snap, we got to make sure the emphasis is taking care of the ball.”

Lawrence has thrown 39 interceptions and fumbled the ball 33 times throughout his career, and it’s quite clear that Pederson does not find either of those numbers to be acceptable.

We’ll have to see what sort of changes Lawrence and the Jaguars make heading into next season to correct the turnover issues, but they’re going to have to do something if the team wants to reach the next level.
