On Thursday morning, Denver Broncos fans awoke to some pretty shocking news that the team was parting ways with veteran star safety Justin Simmons, a fan-favorite player who was one of the leaders on the defensive side of the ball. And it sounds like this move could be just the beginning of a few similar moves.
According to a report from Denver Broncos insider Benjamin Allbright, more moves like this are expected from head coach Sean Payton as he continues to mold the team into his identity.
“For Broncos fans, there are more gut punches coming. We’ve talked about this on BCT extensively. It’s Sean Payton’s team now,” Allbright said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

It’s not clear exactly who Allbright is suggesting could be cut from the team as Payton makes changes to the roster, but it is pretty clear that Payton is expected to continue overhauling his roster.
Many of these roster decisions are likely a result of the team’s salary cap situation, amplified by the fact that they now owe Russell Wilson $85 million for the next two years even though he isn’t on the roster.
We’ll have to see what happens, but it’s a pretty clear warning from Allbright.
