The 2024 NFL Draft is just under a week away, and the Washington Commanders under new owner Josh Harris have a big decision to make with the No. 2 overall pick in the draft. And reports have now circulated that suggest Harris could have a large amount of input on who the team ultimately drafts.

An ownership group led by Harris purchased the Commanders last July, meaning that this will be the first NFL Draft that he will have the ability to put his input into as an official owner.

However, according to Pro Football Talk, Harris has been “more involved than people expected him to be” when it comes to the team’s scouting process ahead of the draft.

There are plenty of owners who are outwardly involved in some of the personnel decisions with their team. Just look at Dallas Cowboys’ longtime owner Jerry Jones or Indianapolis Colts’ owner Jim Irsay.

It’s obviously great to have an owner who cares so much about the team’s success on the field. But too much input can lead to the general manager getting strong-armed into decisions that they may not feel comfortable with.

Could that end up being the case in Washington? Only time will tell. But regardless, the Commanders have a ton riding on their No. 2 overall draft pick.

They are largely expected by most to select a quarterback of the future with the pick. The likes of either Drake Maye or Jayden Daniels are the overwhelming favorites to be the pick.

A mistake with their pick could be a disastrous one that could set the organization back for years. So hopefully if Harris is deeply invested in giving input on the pick, he makes the right call…
