The Cleveland Browns will hope quarterback Deshaun Watson can consistently regain his old form if they’re to realize their championship ambitions this season.
The Browns held their first full week of training camp last week, yet Watson was on the sidelines as an observer. However, it’s all part of the plan for head coach Kevin Stefanski, who gave Watson the day off due to his previous practice performances.
“He’s done a nice job throughout the days that he’s throwing. I thought he was doing really well. He’s focused, locked in,” Stefanski told reporters, according to Athlon Sports. “Even today, proud of him for being in the huddle, giving coaching points.
“I think that’s such a huge part of this as the starting quarterback, is even on a day like this where he gets an off day throwing, it’s not an off day from a leadership perspective, and he did a nice job.”
Stefanski said while Watson could have thrown that day, it’s part of his plan with the medical team as the franchise quarterback rehabilitates last year’s season-ending shoulder surgery.
“He’s being diligent about what we’re asking him to do,” Stefanski said. “Gave him a day off today. He probably would have thrown if we let him, but just staying true to what we have a plan here with the medical team.”
The Browns open their 2024 campaign on Sept. 8th at home against the Dallas Cowboys.
