Clay Travis’ book came out just over a week ago and the ‘Lock It In’ host thinks the reason it didn’t hit the New York Times bestseller list is because it featured an image of President Donald Trump dunking on Colin Kaepernick.

That’s quite the claim. And, one that doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.

Three conservative-authored books checked in on the top-15 of the New York Times bestseller list. So, it’s unlikely Clay was blackballed for his imagery.

Travis claimed authors paid tens of thousands of dollars to be on the list. Something he says he’d never do. His claim was dismissed by someone saying they worked in the industry.

Furthermore, Travis claimed his book was the “bestselling sports book of the year.”

It currently ranks eighth in the “sports and outdoors” category on Amazon.

It was also pointed out that Travis book wasn’t even the top-selling sports book of the week.

The New York Times’ own Kevin Draper pointed out Clay’s book ranked 403rd on Amazon’s rankings.

Here’s Travis breaking down the numbers.

Travis’ book seemed to sell pretty well by normal bookselling standards, so there was really no need to inflate the numbers into something provably false. Having Trump dunk on Kaepernick didn’t prevent him from hitting the New York Times list. It appears he just didn’t sell enough copies to make it.
