Last week, Cincinnati Bengals star defensive end Trey Hendrickson demanded a trade from the team due to frustrations with his contract, and he was reportedly even willing to consider retirement if the team did not trade him or offer him a new contract. But it sounds like the team expects him to be in the lineup this season.
During a recent press conference at the NFL Draft this weekend, Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor indicated that he does expect Trey Hendrickson to play for the Bengals this year despite the trade request.
“We want Trey to play here next year for us,” Taylor said according to Ben Baby of ESPN. “He’s going to play here next year for us.”
Hendrickson has emerged as a legitimate star for the Bengals recently, making the Pro Bowl each of the past three seasons. He’s under contract with the team not just this upcoming season, but also the next season as well with his contract running through 2025. And it sounds like the Bengals have no intention of trading him.
“He’s going to have success and we’re going to have success,” Taylor said. “I’m excited for that.”
We’ll have to see how this all works out.
