Indianapolis Colts head coach Chuck Pagano surprised players and coaches by attending a short staff meeting on Monday. It’s the first time Pagano has been back since being diagnosed with a form of leukemia Sept. 26.
Interim head coach and offensive coordinator Bruce Arians said that he didn’t expect Pagano to return so quickly, but doctors said Pagano’s white blood cell count was up which allowed him to attend the meeting without fearing risk of infection.
“It was a shock to a lot of guys, and everybody was excited he was here,” Arians said.
Pagano begins his second round of chemotherapy next week.
