A brutal collision between Chargers defenders Marcus Gilchrist and Reggie Walker during the fourth quarter of Sunday’s divisional matchup between San Diego and Denver resulted in a destroyed helmet and a scary injury.
As you can see in the GIF above, Gilchrist and Walker collided helmet-to-helmet and pieces of Gilchrist’s lid went flying everywhere upon impact. Gilchrist was slow to get up and had to be helped off the field by medical staff.
In a bit of an ironic twist, the player both Chargers were attempting to bring down was Wes Welker, who was wearing a specialized helmet designed to prevent head injuries.
