With the trade deadline looming, the Denver Broncos took a step towards solidifying their tight end position by trading for Vernon Davis from the San Francisco 49ers.

The Broncos haven’t been getting as much production out of their tight end tandem of Owen Daniels and Virgil Green this season, so the trade for Davis makes sense.
We've agreed to trade for two-time Pro Bowl TE Vernon Davis from SF. He'll be a valuable addition to our team w/his experience & leadership.

As for the 49ers, the team’s decision to move on from Vernon is likely due to the fact that he’s on the last year of his contract and the 49ers have little hope of contending for a playoff spot this year. There were also reports from last month that state that Davis was involved in a spat with 49ers tackle Joe Staley over Colin Kaepernick’s involvement in the locker room.
Despite the Niners’ dreadful passing game (or perhaps because of it), in five games this season Davis caught 18 passes for 194 yards and no touchdowns. Perhaps a change of scenery (and quarterback) will help those numbers go up.
