The Washington Commanders have been long expected to select a quarterback with the No. 2 overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, but it hasn’t exactly been clear what quarterback they were targeting. However, it sounds like those plans may have been accidentally revealed.
During an interview following the LSU Tigers’ pro day workout that featured star quarterback Jayden Daniels, LSU head coach Brian Kelly may have accidentally revealed that the Washington Commanders are planning to select Daniels with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
The apparent slip happened when Kelly was discussing concerns about Daniels’ size.
“[Daniesl] is going to be so committed to taking care of himself that you’re not going to have to worry about size or [if] he doesn’t weigh enough,” Kelly said according to CBS Sports. “Lamar [Jackson] has done a pretty good job with his size. [Patrick] Mahomes, I wouldn’t consider him a giant. Because [Daniels]is going to get the ball out to the players and make plays for Washington.”
Obviously, there’s a chance that Washington could simply change their mind, even if Kelly did accidentally reveal their current plans. But it’s certainly interesting for him to suggest that they are planning to draft Daniels.
