The Atlanta Falcons just signed veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins this offseason, but it sounds like the team is still very much considering drafting a quarterback in the first round of the upcoming NFL Draft.
According to a report from NFL insider Albert Breer of SI.com, the Atlanta Falcons sent a “sizable group” to visit Washington Huskies quarterback Michael Penix Jr. for a “private workout.”
“The Falcons are sending a sizable group to Seattle to conduct a private workout with Washington QB Michael Penix today, per sources. HC Raheem Morris and GM Terry Fontenot are among those in the traveling party, which left this morning. Atlanta holds the eighth overall pick,” Breer said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

Obviously, Cousins is going to be the starting quarterback for the Falcons this upcoming season and likely for the next few years after he signed a four-year contract with the Falcons, but drafting a quarterback with the No. 8 overall pick in the first round could help the team prepare for the future at the position.
We’ll have to see whether or not the Falcons do select Penix with their first-round pick this month.
