The Atlanta Falcons just signed veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins to a four-year contract just last month. But in a pretty shocking turn of events, it sounds like the Falcons are still considering selecting a quarterback in the upcoming NFL Draft.

According to a report from NFL insider Albert Breer of SI.com, the Atlanta Falcons are meeting with Washington Huskies quarterback Michael Penix Jr., sending a “sizable group” for a private workout in Seattle.

“The Falcons are sending a sizable group to Seattle to conduct a private workout with Washington QB Michael Penix today, per sources. HC Raheem Morris and GM Terry Fontenot are among those in the traveling party, which left this morning. Atlanta holds the eighth overall pick,” Breer said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

This is obviously some pretty shocking news given that the Falcons just signed a quarterback the team clearly expects to be its starter for the next several years, and the NFL world had a lot to say about it on social media as a result.

We’ll have to see whether or not the Falcons do decide to make a move for Penix in the coming weeks.
