The Atlanta Falcons have made it no secret that they are seeking a new quarterback this offseason after Desmond Ridder and Taylor Heinicke struggled at the position last season, and it sounds like they are now nearing a deal that would bring in a new starting quarterback by way of a trade.
According to a report from NFL Draft analyst and insider Tony Pauline of Sportskeeda, the Atlanta Falcons are “finalizing” a trade with the Chicago Bears to acquire quarterback Justin Fields.
“Word in Indianapolis is the Chicago Bears are close to finalizing a deal which would send former first-round pick Justin Fields to the Atlanta Falcons,” Pauline wrote.
“It is not known if the deal will be finalized or even announced before the conclusion of the Combine. As I reported on Thursday, if the Falcons can’t come to terms with the Bears for Fields they will turn their attention to Baker Mayfield if he’s available when free agency commences.”
Obviously, this would be pretty significant for the Falcons to add a former first-round pick as their new quarterback, but it could also be a good move for Fields as he will get to return to Atlanta after growing up in the Atlanta area.
