We have seen a few of these happen in the MLB, but I have yet to see a ball get lodged in a mitt, and then get unlodged as it is tossed over to first base. That is exactly what happened in the top of the 7th inning of a recent Oregon and Cal State Northridge college baseball game. CSUN’s Ryan Raslowsky hit a ball which was fielded cleanly by Oregon Pitcher Jeff Gold, but the ball got stuck in the webbing of his mitt.
Gold did the only thing he could by tossing the ball and glove over to his first baseman for the out. That is heads up baseball.
