A fun storyline of this NBA season has been the playful back and forth among NBA teams’ marketing departments. While most instances involve taking subtle, troll-ish jabs via Twitter, the Utah Jazz just took trolling to the next level by mocking the Kobe Bryant return video the Los Angeles Lakers released last week.
Obviously, the Jazz don’t have any players of Kobe’s caliber, nor do they have any players worthy of an epic highlight reel marking their return from an injury. And that’s what makes this Marvin Williams return video — complete with a #2 jersey dangling from a plastic hanger — so absurdly awesome. Even better, Williams’ return happened to be the night the two worst teams in the Western Conference (Jazz and Kings) faced off against each other.
It’s yet another example of how NBA marketing departments are light years ahead of other major sports.
