Forbes published a list on Friday of the most overpaid active NBA players. Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony topped the list, which also included Dirk Nowitzki (ok?), Rudy Gay (duh) and Joe Johnson (double-duh). Clocking in at #8 was Spurs forward Stephen Jackson, who is set to make roughly $10 million this season. Naturally, reporters asked Captain Jack for his thoughts, and he replied with the most factual statement ever made about overpaid players (or, player — singular — in this case):
I can name at least ten people that’s overpaid. One is the worst of all time, and I played with him. Jim McIlvaine. He robbed the league with no mask, no type of weapon. He just went in there and said ‘give me all the money’…what is it, $99 million, or somethin’? And played one year in Seattle and New Jersey? Jim McIlvaine should be number one.
To be fair to Jimmy Mac, he played for three teams (Bullets, SuperSonics, Nets) over the course of seven seasons, but with career averages of 2.7 points and 3.1 blocks (wait, did I say blocks? I meant rebounds) per game, the seven-year, $33.6 million deal he signed in 1996 absolutely lands him at #1 on the all-time list. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go chug a fifth of vodka, in an attempt to forget that ever happened.
